Set up TekLan VPN in Microsoft Edge

The extension protects browsing inside Edge. It does not route traffic from other applications on the computer.

Install from Microsoft Edge Add-ons

The current Microsoft Edge Add-ons version is 4.0.1. The extension connects with ProxTek, TekLan’s encrypted browser connection: everything between Edge and TekLan’s server is encrypted, and the extension uses its own login for this browser rather than your VPN password.

Before you begin

  • Update Edge to a current version.
  • Have your TekLan VPN email address and password ready.
  • Turn off any other VPN or proxy extension.

Complete the setup

  1. Open the TekLan VPN listing on Microsoft Edge Add-ons and select Get.
  2. Review the permissions and confirm. TekLan needs access to all websites so that every site you visit goes through ProxTek.
  3. Open the extensions menu (the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar), select TekLan VPN and pin it so it shows in the toolbar.
  4. Sign in with your TekLan VPN email address and password. Your password is used once to sign in and is never stored.
  5. Open Locations, choose a location, then select the round button on Connect.

Protect private windows (optional)

Open edge://extensions, select Details under TekLan VPN and turn on Allow in InPrivate. Edge restarts the extension, so connect again afterwards. Without this, TekLan protects your normal windows only.

Check the connection

  1. The extension shows Connected with a green dot.
  2. Select Leak test on the Connect page. It should say No leaks found and show the location you chose.
  3. To keep a site off the VPN (or always on it), use Website rules.

If it does not connect

  • If the extension shows Allow TekLan VPN, select Allow access: Edge has not given it access to websites.
  • If it shows Sign in again, sign in again: TekLan stopped accepting this browser’s login (for example after you signed this device out).
  • Turn off other VPN, proxy or privacy extensions; Edge lets only one extension control the proxy.
  • Open Settings, Diagnostics to see the last error, or Contact support to send us a ticket with it.
  • Confirm your email address and password work by signing in to the client area.

What it protects

TekLan VPN for Edge protects browsing in Edge only. If TekLan can’t carry your traffic, the extension blocks it instead of letting it go out unprotected. For the whole device, use the TekLan VPN apps.
