Install the TekLan VPN extension in Firefox

The extension protects browsing inside Firefox. It does not route traffic from other applications on the device.

Before you begin

  • Update Mozilla Firefox to a current version.
  • Have your TekLan VPN client-account email address and password ready.
  • Disable any other VPN or proxy extension while testing TekLan.

Install and connect

  1. Open the TekLan VPN page on Firefox Browser Add-ons.
  2. Select Add to Firefox.
  3. Review the permissions shown by Firefox, then select Add.
  4. Open Menu, Add-ons and themes, Extensions, select TekLan VPN and set Run in Private Windows to Allow. The extension’s proxy permission requires this setting.
  5. Open the extensions menu in the Firefox toolbar and select TekLan VPN.
  6. Enter your TekLan VPN client-account email address and password.
  7. Select a server and connect.
  8. Pin TekLan VPN to the toolbar if you want the connection control to remain visible.

Check the connection

  1. Open the TekLan extension and confirm it reports an active connection.
  2. Reload the current tab.
  3. Open a public IP-checking website in Firefox and confirm the address changes.
  4. Disconnect the extension and confirm the normal address returns.

If it does not connect

  • Open Add-ons and themes, select Extensions and confirm TekLan VPN is enabled.
  • Disable conflicting VPN, proxy or privacy extensions.
  • Sign out, restart Firefox and sign in again.
  • Remove and reinstall the extension if its panel will not open.

What you should see

After installation, the TekLan VPN icon appears in Firefox’s extensions menu. Open it to sign in, choose a server and connect. Firefox may place the icon inside the extensions menu until you pin it to the toolbar.
