Troubleshooting
Casting, Smart View or printers stop working on the VPN
Casting to a TV, mirroring with Smart View, printing and file sharing all talk to devices on your home network. A VPN that sends everything through the tunnel can hide those devices from you.
Short answer: Turn on Local network access in the app’s VPN settings. Devices on your home network can then talk to each other while the VPN protects everything else.
The fix
Turn on Local network access
- Open TekLan VPN and go to VPN settings (on Apple TV, Settings).
- Turn on Local network access; on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android it’s under Traffic routing.
- Disconnect and connect again so it applies.
On iPhone and iPad from 4.4.0, CarPlay and AirPlay stay off the VPN automatically. More on that.

Questions
Frequently asked
Is my internet traffic still protected?
Yes. Local network access only lets your device reach your own home network; everything going to the internet still goes through the VPN.
Should I turn it on in a café or hotel?
Leave it off on networks you don’t trust, so other devices there can’t reach yours.
