Browser extension

Install TekLan VPN in Brave

Brave is built on Chromium, so it installs the same TekLan VPN extension as Google Chrome, straight from the Chrome Web Store.

TekLan extension for Brave

Install from the Chrome Web Store

The extension protects browsing inside Brave. It does not route traffic from other applications on the computer.

The current Chrome Web Store version is 3.1.0.

Before you begin

  • Update Brave to a current version.
  • Turn off Brave VPN (Brave Firewall + VPN) if you use it, so only TekLan routes your browsing.
  • Have your TekLan VPN email address and password ready.
  • Disable any other VPN or proxy extension while testing TekLan.

Complete the setup

  1. Open the TekLan VPN listing in the Chrome Web Store in Brave.
  2. Select Add to Brave, review the permissions and confirm with Add extension.
  3. Select the puzzle-piece Extensions icon next to the address bar and pin TekLan VPN to the toolbar.
  4. Open TekLan VPN, sign in with your TekLan VPN email address and password, choose a location and connect.

Good to know

  • Brave Shields can stay on. They do not stop the extension.
  • Brave turns extensions off in private windows by default, and TekLan VPN does not run there. Use a normal window for VPN browsing.
  • Brave’s Tor windows use their own network and do not go through TekLan VPN.

Check the connection

  1. Open the TekLan extension and confirm it reports an active connection.
  2. Reload the current tab.
  3. Open a public IP-checking website in Brave and confirm the address changes.
  4. Remember that the extension protects Brave traffic only.

If it does not connect

  • Confirm TekLan VPN is enabled at brave://extensions.
  • Make sure Brave VPN is disconnected.
  • Disable conflicting VPN, proxy or privacy extensions.
  • Sign out, restart Brave and sign in again.
  • Confirm your email address and password work by signing in to the client area in a private browsing window.
