Browser extension
Install TekLan VPN in Opera
Opera and Opera GX are built on Chromium. With Opera’s free Chrome Web Store support they install the same TekLan VPN extension as Google Chrome.
TekLan extension for Opera
Install from the Chrome Web Store
The extension protects browsing inside Opera. It does not route traffic from other applications on the computer.
The current Chrome Web Store version is 3.1.0.
Before you begin
- Update Opera or Opera GX to a current version.
- Turn off Opera’s built-in VPN (Settings › Privacy & security › VPN) so only TekLan routes your browsing.
- Have your TekLan VPN email address and password ready.
- Disable any other VPN or proxy extension while testing TekLan.
Complete the setup
- In Opera, open Install Chrome Extensions on Opera add-ons and add it. Opera GX may already allow Chrome extensions.
- Open the TekLan VPN listing in the Chrome Web Store.
- Select Add to Opera, review the permissions and confirm the installation.
- Open the cube-shaped Extensions menu next to the address bar, pin TekLan VPN, then sign in, choose a location and connect.
Good to know
- TekLan VPN does not run in private windows. Use a normal window for VPN browsing.
Check the connection
- Open the TekLan extension and confirm it reports an active connection.
- Reload the current tab.
- Open a public IP-checking website in Opera and confirm the address changes.
- Remember that the extension protects Opera traffic only.
If it does not connect
- Confirm TekLan VPN is enabled at opera://extensions.
- Make sure Opera’s own VPN is switched off.
- Disable conflicting VPN, proxy or privacy extensions.
- Sign out, restart Opera and sign in again.
- Confirm your email address and password work by signing in to the client area in a private browsing window.
